As far as I'm aware, Open Office gives the option af saving in .doc format.

Sorry bud... misunderstood... see the problem now... the program tries to open MS 'Word' to import docs ... yeah... that's not much good for those of us that use open source word processors, even if we can save in 'Word' format...
